Who are the Indianapolis Colts’ unrestricted free agents for this 2025 NFL offseason?
An unrestricted free agent is the most well-known type of free agent. It’s a player with at least four years of accrued NFL experience and they are to able to test the free agency market and sign wherever they please.
Last offseason, we saw GM Chris Ballard prioritize re-signing his own free agents. The only outside additions made in free agency were Joe Flacco and Raekwon Davis–a backup quarterback and a rotational defensive tackle.
Following another disappointing season in 2024, Ballard would call that roster-building approach a “mistake.” Ballard banked on continuity from a 2023 team–that also missed the playoffs–being the catalyst that would push this Colts team forward. But instead, Indianapolis regressed.
To remedy this, Ballard wants to infuse this roster with competition this offseason. To what degree that takes place remains to be seen, and Ballard wasn’t going to provide any specifics during his end-of-season press conference.
“Instead of really creating competition throughout and throwing new blood into the locker room, new players into the locker room, I said ‘you know what, we’re gonna run it back,’ Ballard said. “That was a mistake.”
However, presumably, his approach to free agency is going to change with more outside additions–although that doesn’t mean the top-of-market signings–and perhaps more roster turnover, with fewer of the Colt’s own free agents brought back.
“We’ve got to be better about making sure that we identify the right free agents that can help push this team to where it needs to go,” said Ballard.
