The Carson Wentz era for the Indianapolis Colts lasted just one season. Earlier this week, they traded the former No. 2 overall pick to the Washington Commanders.
Now that Wentz is officially gone, the NFL world is starting to learn what went on behind the scenes in Indianapolis.
According to Zak Keefer of The Athletic, people within the Colts organization were frustrated with Wentz’s leadership and careless play.
“Over the course of the year, some grew frustrated at what they deemed a lack of leadership, a resistance to hard coaching and a reckless style of play, which had a role in several close losses this year,” Keefer wrote.
Keefer also revealed that Colts head coach Frank Reich apologized to team owner Jim Irsay for wanting them to pursue Wentz last offseason.
The Colts’ decision to trade Carson Wentz wasn’t just about Jacksonville — or the way it all ended.
There was **a lot** more to it, according to several recent conversations with sources in the building.

Wentz finished the 2021 season with 3,563 passing yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Even though Wentz’s stat line didn’t look bad at all, it’s evident that he wasn’t the franchise quarterback Indianapolis was searching for.
With Wentz out of the picture, the pressure will be on Colts general manager Chris Ballard to find the right signal-caller this offseason.
