Stephon Gilmore took time with his free-agency decision and it appears to have paid off in a big way. After paying visits to multiple teams – including the defending champion Los Angeles Rams – this offseason, the veteran quarterback has made up his mind.
Gilmore is heading to Indianapolis. The 31-year-old defensive back signed a two-year deal worth $23 million with the Colts on Friday. $14 million is guaranteed.
This is a bigger contract than some were expecting, especially considering Gilmore was a free agent for an extended period of time. However, the Colts clearly believe in the veteran corner.
Gilmore’s free-agency decision has the NFL world talking:
“This is a great signing. I was saying, the Colts have some cap space and a lot of needs. Outside CB was one of those needs. Gilmore can still play and play well,” Aaron Schatz said.

“Continues a Colts trend this offseason that mirrors what the Patriots and Ravens have done in the past—signing third-contract veterans. Logic is there’s more track record to go on and an added leadership/intangible element. Think this move works to extend Gilmore’s career too,” Albert Breer wrote.

“Good things happen when the team’s owner sends out the private jet for you. $23 million over 2 years with $14 million guaranteed for Gilmore, per @AdamSchefter. A revamped #Colts secondary featuring slot corner Kenny Moore II and newly signed Stephon Gilmore and S Rodney McLeod,” Neer Ray said.

“Gilmore was limited to 8 games in ‘21, but still logged two INTs for the Panthers. Still one of top guys at his position, and joining a stout defense in Indy Gilly Lock back in the AFC. I wish him well,” Mike D’Abate wrote.
