The Seattle Seahawks made out well on Day 1 of the draft, nabbing the top-rated corner and receiver in the first round. But according to coach Pete Carroll, the team almost went quarterback at pick No. 5.
Via Dov Kleiman, “The Seahawks ‘definitely considered’ drafting QB Anthony Richardson 5th overall prior to the Colts taking him one spot ahead, per [Carroll].”
Adding, “He might be the best athlete that’s ever been drafted at that position. He’s arguably that.”

Richardson certainly fits the Pete Carroll prototype. The Super Bowl winning HC loves his athletes big and strong, often taking chances on body type (i.e. D.K. Metcalf and Tariq Woolen) and coaching them up to excel in his scheme.
The Seahawks recently signed veteran QB Geno Smith to a team-friendly deal that gives them an offramp if 2022’s success can’t be duplicated. But they made sure to surround him with plenty of young offensive talent.
