The Los Angeles Rams proved last year that selling your future to win a championship is possible in the NFL. The biggest move they made was acquiring Matthew Stafford from the Lions in a blockbuster trade. It paid off with a Super Bowl. The Colts could learn a thing or two from the Rams’ strategy.
Stafford apparently was willing to accept a trade to the Colts last year, per NFL insider Peter Schrager. The Colts weren’t willing to sell the house to get him, though. Now, they’re stuck without a franchise quarterback.
“Stafford was also willing to be a Colt last year,” Schrager told Pat McAfee on Thursday. “He was willing to do it. He didn’t say no to the Colts. The Niners, Rams and the Colts were the three teams.”

Matthew Stafford in Indinapolis would have been a game-changer for the Colts. Instead, they were stuck with Carson Wentz and missed out on the playoffs entirely. Now, they’ve already moved on from Wentz and are without a franchise quarterback.
The latest rumors suggest the Colts will trade for 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. So far, the Niners have been hesitant to move Garoppolo though. Perhaps they’re trying to drive the price up.
Should the Colts have traded for Matthew Stafford last year?
