Colts’ left guard Quenton Nelson has been cleared to start Week 1 vs. Seattle.

Indianapolis Colts left guard Quenton Nelson has been cleared to start Week 1 vs. the Seattle Seahawks, per Chris Mortenson.

Not only is @Colts QB Carson Wentz ready but OG Quenton Nelson also now good to go for Sunday’s game vs. @Seahawks.
Wentz no setbacks with foot this week. Nelson was questionable, more for back issues than foot, but he was good Friday, no issues today and cleared to start.

Nelson, who had been dealing with back issues during the last couple of days, is good to go for Sunday’s season opener. To many, though, there wasn’t ever much doubt, barring a setback, of course, that Nelson wouldn’t be there for Indy’s first game.

The three-time All-Pro selectee is such a pivotal piece to the Colts’ offensive line, as Nelson has established himself as one of the league’s best interior offensive lineman over each of his first three seasons.

While Seattle’s pass rush might not be one of the strongest in the NFL, being down both left tackle Eric Fisher (Achilles) and Nelson wouldn’t have been ideal, as that would’ve weakened the team’s left side of the offensive line.

When speaking with local media members just two weeks ago, Nelson sounded very optimistic that he would be out there to start the season. Additionally, Nelson also reflected on what it’s going to be like having a fully-packed stadium for the first time in over a season.

“It really stunk last year not having fans there,” Nelson said. “There’s no energy in the stadium, so we’re really excited to have the fans there. They’re great, and they do a great job, and it makes the game a lot more exciting.”

After several weeks of wondering whether or not two of Indianapolis’ most important players in quarterback Carson Wentz and Nelson would be ready to go Week 1, both have checked the necessary steps needed to start, which is great news for the Colts.
