The Colts just can’t catch a break. They lost their starting quarterback to injury on Monday. They then lost their superstar offensive lineman to injury on Tuesday. What’s going on in Indianapolis?
Carson Wentz will soon undergo foot surgery which will cause him to miss the next five to 12 weeks. Believe it or not, Quenton Nelson suffered a similar injury this week, which will also require surgery and place him on a similar recovery timeline. You just can’t make this stuff up.
If there’s any positive to take away here, it’s the timing of it all. It’s still early in training camp. The season doesn’t start until Sept. 12. Wentz and Nelson have plenty of time to recover. There is still concern surrounding how long their respective recoveries will take, though.
Regardless, this week’s injury news out of Indianapolis is a devastating series of events for the Colts.
Colts’ QB Carson Wentz had foot surgery Monday and is expected to miss 5-12 weeks, Colts’ Pro-Bowl G Quenton Nelson has foot surgery today and is on a similar timeline. https://t.co/kGpnGwo5dU

Are the Colts cursed? Some football fans appear to think so.
We haven’t seen a team suffer so many devastating injuries to key players all in one week in years. Call it bad luck or just a coincidence, the Colts just can’t catch a break.
NEWS: Frank Reich says Quenton Nelson has a bone issue similar to Carson Wentz’s and will undergo surgery today. Similar timeline to Wentz.
On Wentz, surgery was “best case scenario.” No further damage discovered.
Reich: “Can’t make this up.”

#Colts have now lost Nelson and Wentz for up to 12 weeks. The blows to Indy have been tough so far!#ColtsNation #NFL

You can’t make this stuff up: A day after Colts QB Carson Wentz underwent a 4 p.m. foot surgery with Dr. David Porter in Indianapolis, Colts LG Quenton Nelson will undergo the same procedure, with the same doctor at the same exact time.

Replacing Carson Wentz is easier than replacing Quenton Nelson.

Quenton Nelson Out 5-12 Weeks#Colts #ColtsCamp pic.twitter.com/q37owtlMwT— Tom Hales (@headsorthales) August 3, 2021
Like the Carson Wentz injury, the injury to Quenton Nelson is more serious than we originally thought. Nelson will have surgery to repair his injured foot and is out indefinitely.
The bad news just keeps coming for the #Colts.

Wentz now Nelson. Arguably the 2 most important pieces tothe colts success this year https://t.co/C8tbXqmAu1

The good news for the Colts is the NFL is still in training camp. If anything, the Carson Wentz and Quenton Nelson injuries will allow other, presumably younger players to step up in their absence. Plus, the Colts need to figure out their quarterback situation behind Wentz.
This could end up being a blessing in disguise if Wentz and Nelson return at the five-week threshold. If their respective recoveries take any longer, the Colts could be in trouble.
