NFL World Reacts To Carson Wentz Injury News

August 2, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Carson Wentz’s status for the start of the Indianapolis Colts season is currently up in the air.

The former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is currently dealing with a foot injury. Wentz reportedly experienced some pain in his foot while attempting to plant before a throw at practice.

While surgery is reportedly an option for Wentz, he will reportedly choose to rest – for now.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport shared the news on Sunday.

“Carson Wentz plans to try to rest and rehab his foot injury over the next few days, source said, rather than have immediate surgery. If all goes well, Week 1 is in play. If it doesn’t improve, the answer may be surgery,” he reports.

This is reportedly good – although cautious – news.

“Been saying for the past 48 hours that this was a fluid situation despite everyone asking for definitive answers. Sometimes there aren’t definitive answers,” Colts reporter Stephen Holder tweeted.

“On its face, this is good news. But no one knows how it’ll go for Wentz from here so stay tuned,” NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo tweeted.

“Another point here on Carson Wentz trying to rehab and power through his injury: Medical folks agree this scenario would mean he’d be much less mobile as he tries to play through it. That’s a part of his game, obviously.”

It’s been a rough camp for the Colts so far.

Colts’ camp so far:

🏈New QB Carson Wentz out indefinitely with foot injury.

🏈Pro Bowl C Ryan Kelly out at least two weeks with hyperextend elbow.

🏈HC Frank Reich tested positive for COVID.

🏈LB Darius Leonard not practicing due to ankle injury.

As pointed out by many on social media, the Colts have downplayed injuries before (they’re certainly not alone in doing so, but the history isn’t great here).

#Colts downplayed Peyton’s neck injury in 2011. He missed the season.#Colts downplayed Luck’s shoulder injury in ‘17. He missed the season.#Colts downplayed Luck’s ankle injury in ‘19. He retired.

Carson Wentz’s injury started off minor. The updates have only gotten worse.

The Colts are a little more than a month away from the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

Will Indianapolis have Wentz behind center Week 1?
