The Indianapolis Colts face a franchise-altering choice Thursday night.
Jim Irsay hasn’t concealed his team’s plans to draft a quarterback with the No. 4 pick. However, the owner told ESPN’s Stephen Holder the team still hadn’t decided which one it prefers as of Monday.
“People think … the decision’s made, or decision makers aren’t telling anyone,” Irsay said. “That’s not true a lot of times. Honestly, this is as much intrigue and as much debate [as I’ve seen]. You have four guys, and they’re all worthy of being the No. 1 pick in the draft. Any of the four you take at [No.] 1, people can’t slam anyone for it.
“I’m not being evasive. I’m being honest. Really, we are still debating what our options are.”
Irsay is presumably talking about Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson, and Will Levis. The Colts haven’t made any leeway if they’re truly still deliberating between all four prospects.
Earlier in the offseason, Irsay tipped his hand about liking Young. However, the Carolina Panthers may make him the No. 1 selection.
Irsay said first-year head coach Shane Steichen will “have a big say” in the team’s decision. While the Colts hadn’t made up their mind to start the week, one would hope they have a plan once the draft starts tonight at 8 p.m. ET.
