NFL Insider Has Huge Carson Wentz Update Ahead Of Week 1

September 8, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

In early August, there was no guarantee that Carson Wentz would be ready to open his first season with the Indianapolis Colts. After impressive recovery from the foot injury that threatened to send him under the knife, it looks like he’s ready to go against the Seattle Seahawks.

Wentz was traded after his once-promising career with the Philadelphia Eagles imploded last year. The Colts, led by former Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich, hope to get him back on track, and land a franchise quarterback in the process.

He’s been trending in the right direction to play on Sunday. Moments ago, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport issued a big update: Wentz is a full participant in practice today, and he’ll be the guy for the Colts in that opener against the Seahawks on Sunday.

In the event that Wentz goes down, former Washington quarterback Jacob Eason, a 2020 fourth-round pick without a regular season snap under his belt, would be thrust into action. This obviously changes the tenor of the early season for Indianapolis, especially if Wentz looks closer to the player he was a few years ago with Philly.

Carson Wentz, a former No. 2 overall pick, really struggled last year. He completed under 60-percent of his throws for the first time, with a career low six yards per attempt and 16 touchdowns, and a career high 15 interceptions. He was benched after putting up a 3-8-1 record in favor of rookie Jalen Hurts.

Back in 2017, with Reich running the offense, he was an MVP candidate before going down with injury. That season, he led the Eagles, who would go on to win a Super Bowl with Nick Foles under center, to an 11-2 record, throwing for 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions in 13 games.

The Indianapolis Colts host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Sept. 12 to open the season.
