Amid league-wide roster cuts, the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to add a rather controversial player: Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers.
Rodgers became a subject of national news earlier this offseason when the NFL suspended him for gambling. He was suspended for the entire 2023 season amid allegations that he made around 100 bets, including wagers on the Colts.
The Colts waived Rodgers, a former sixth-round pick but with plenty of in-game experience, after the suspension was announced. But their loss will be the Eagles’ gain – next year.
Fans on Twitter consider it to be a savvy move by the Eagles. They get an experienced slot corner who doesn’t take up a roster spot this year and will be available for them next year (potentially after losing some cornerbacks in free agency).
That said, nearly all of the comments were wagering puns.

In three NFL seasons Isaiah Rodgers has 90 tackles, three interceptions and 10 passes defended as a cornerback. He’s also a solid return ace with 1,645 return yards and one touchdown along with a 27.0 yards per return average.
Once the suspension is over, there’s a good chance that Rodgers could quietly emerge as a solid contributor for the Eagles.
