Rumors always need to be taken with a grain of salt, especailly when we are so close to the start of the NFL Draft.
But in a recent article from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, where he shared what he was hearing about the draft, he did mention that the Colts are one of the teams “connected” to speedy Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
Here is what Breer had to say:
“Speaking of the Kansas City Chiefs, I do think they could go up for a tackle, but there are limits. If going up doesn’t work out, reaching for a next-tier tackle such as Rosengarten or BYU’s Kingsley Suamataia would be one avenue. Another could be taking Texas burner Xavier Worthy—who I’ve heard connected to teams as high as the teens (Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars)—if he somehow makes it to them at 32.”
The closer that we’ve gotten to the NFL Draft, the more mock drafts we’ve seen with Worthy going to the Colts at 15th overall.
For a team that needs more playmaking around Anthony Richardson, it is easy to see why they would be interested in Worthy, who ran a record-setting 4.21-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
Worthy would be an excellent fit for Shane Steichen’s offense. His speed allows him to stretch the field vertically, which we know is an important element of Steichen’s offense. The benefit of having that element is not only the big plays Worthy can create but he will create opportunities for others on underneath routes and over the middle.
On top of that, Steichen is very good at finding ways to get his pass-catchers the ball in space, where Worthy’s speed could take over as he picks up YAC. Worthy’s presence could also cause some chaos pre-snap as a motion man.
Worthy measured in at 5-11 – 165 pounds at the NFL combine and posted an elite Relative Athletic Score of 9.37, which included elite vertical and broad jumps along with his 40 time. Worthy is the 31st-ranked prospect on Daniel Jeremiah’s big board.
