Matchups to Watch: Week 3 @ Titans

Carson Wentz’ Vs. His Injury Status

Carson Wentz is seriously tough. After watching his injury live, I thought that 4-6 weeks out was the absolute best case scenario, but it looks like he might be ready to go on Sunday. Wentz’ status is the most important matchup of the game, as if he is out, then it looks like Brett Hundley will take over the starting role over Jacob Eason, and my expectations are not exactly sky high for an offense led by Brett Hundley.

Mark Glowinski Vs. Denico Autry/Jeffery Simmons

Without a healthy Braden Smith by his side, Glowinski has looked like the weak link of the chain he is, and on Sunday he will go up against former Colt Denico Autry or Jeffery Simmons, two really talented defensive linemen who could cause plenty of issues for such a limited offensive lineman like Mark Glowinski.

Frank Reich Vs. His redzone issues

Once again, the Colts offense struggles a lot to put up touchdowns, or even points, when in the redzone. After two games of abysmal play-calling in this area of the game, Reich will be under the microscope to deliver results when it matters the most, and to not come up empty handed after reaching the opponent’s twenty-yard line. If the Colts are to start beating playoff teams, then the redzone play-calling and execution has to be better.

Kenny Moore Vs. Chester Rogers

Luckily the Titans do not tend to use their slot receivers a lot in the passing game this season, because Kenny Moore II has been struggling mightily to kick off the new campaign, so far performing like the worst slot cornerback in the NFL, and coming off a week after being consistently picked on by the Rams. If the Colts defense is to reach the elite level it reached the previous year, then Moore will have to find a way to return to his old level of play.

Darius Leonard/Bobby Okereke Vs. Derrick Henry

This is perhaps the most important matchup not being the status of Carson Wentz, as Leonard and Okereke have struggled big time to open up the season. Leonard is clearly not at 100% with an ankle injury bothering him, but he still has made some key plays, while Okereke has simply been atrocious. If the Colts are to stop the Titans potent running game led by Henry, then the linebackers need to start stepping up and making some plays behind the line of scrimmage.
