Matchups to Watch Revisited: Week 3 @Titans

Carson Wentz Vs. His Injury Status

Well, Wentz was clearly not even 70% healthy, as he looked paranoid in the pocket and his mobility was even worse than that of Philip Rivers. In hindsight, Wentz should not have started against the Titans at all. Vrabel’s defense preyed on an easy target, blitzing Wentz plenty of times and getting pressure in his face all game long. As a result, Wentz had his worst game of the season and it showed in the final result, as Wentz’s play was the main reason the Colts lost.

Mark Glowinski Vs. Denico Autry/Jeffery Simmons

Glowinski struggled mightily in pass protection, allowing 6 pressures on 43 snaps. Not having Braden Smith next to him has exposed him, as he looks more and more like the afterthought he was when Ballard took him off waivers, and less like the underrated pickup that helped solidify the right side of the line. Playing next to such a terrible tackle like Davenport surely hurts him, but Glow needs to do a better job at keeping the inside of the pocket clean, especially if Reich plans on starting a banged-up Wentz for the foreseeable future.

Frank Reich Vs. His redzone issues

At first, it seemed like Reich finally understood the assignment, after Hines got a 9-yard rushing touchdown. On later drives, however, Reich refused to run the ball at all and the Colts were forced to settle once again in the redzone. When you print out hats and t-shirts with a slogan that says “Run the damn Ball”, you have to make sure you do so. There are plenty of issues with Reich, which will be discussed in a later article.

Kenny Moore Vs. Chester Rogers

Kenny Moore’s struggles to start the season continued on Sunday, despite improving (not like he could get any worse) his play. Kenny was easily beaten by former Colt Chester Rogers for the first touchdown of the game and got lucky on the interception that just bounced his way. Right now Kenny Moore’s numbers are the ones of the worst slot cornerback in the NFL by a mile, allowing 14 receptions on 62 coverage snaps (targeted 18 times), allowing a whopping 9.4 YAC, and 2 scores.

Darius Leonard/Bobby Okereke Vs. Derrick Henry

Leonard clearly needs to sit, Reich needs to do a better job of taking proper care of his star players and letting them heal when they are clearly not healthy. Take a look at the interception, and his run after that, or take a look at Jeremy McNichols’ catch for a touchdown. Leonard looks slow, really slow, and it is because he is playing on a bum ankle. When out there, Leonard has been a liability, so why not let him rest? As for Okereke, he played better than the two first games, but the Colts need more for him with Leonard clearly on one leg.
