Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson’s tantalizing physical skillset enticed the Indianapolis Colts to pick him No. 4 overall in this year’s NFL Draft.
Richardson has some rawness to his game, but the tools are there. His new teammate, Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor, made it clear in a Q&A with Justin Melo of SI.com’s Fan Nation Colts site that he thinks “the sky is the limit” for the young signal caller.
Asked who Richardson reminds him of, Taylor named two quarterbacks who just received massive contract extensions and a former NFL MVP.
“He reminds me of Jalen Hurts and Lamar Jackson,” Taylor said. “Looking at the size component, you’d throw Cam Newton in there as well. He’s a physical threat.
“As long as he comes in willing to absorb the information, it’s going to get real scary out there on the field for opposing defenses.”
Quarterback has been a sore spot for the Colts since Andrew Luck abruptly retired in 2019. Last year, the team started three different QBs on their way to a 4-12-1 season.
In addition to Richardson, Indianapolis also brought in veteran backup Gardner Minshew to presumably begin the year as the starter.
However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported over the weekend that several teams think Richardson might be QB1 in Week 1.
