On Friday morning, free-agent cornerback Stephon Gilmore announced his decision to join the Indianapolis Colts for the 2022 NFL season.
This news came despite reports that the former defensive player of the year was “in contact” with the Los Angeles Rams about a potential free-agent deal earlier this week.
If Gilmore had joined the reigning Super Bowl champs, he would’ve completed one of the best secondaries in the league across from fellow All-Pro corner Jalen Ramsey.
After the news broke on Friday, Ramsey seemed to share his thoughts on the decision.
“Smh [shaking my head],” he wrote on Twitter.

While Ramsey and the Rams may not have won the Stephon Gilmore sweepstakes, they’ve already been big winners in this year’s free-agent market — signing superstar linebacker Bobby Wagner and former Pro-Bowl wide receiver Allen Robinson.
Gilmore signed a two-year, $23 million deal ($14 million guaranteed) with the Colts, per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. If he were to sign have signed with the Rams, his contract likely would’ve seen him earn significantly less.
Despite not landing Gilmore, the Rams should be in pretty good shape heading into the 2022 season.
