The Colts have already named a starting quarterback for their season opener against the Jaguars.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced Tuesday that rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson will be his starter for the regular season. Gardner Minshew will be the team’s primary backup.
Richardson completed 7-of-12 pass attempts in the Colts’ preseason opener for 67 yards with an interception. He also had two carries for seven yards.
Steichen told reporters this past weekend that he was impressed with what he saw from Richardson.
“I thought he had great poise,” Steichen said. “Had the early interception, that was my fault. Gotta be better there. Thought he was efficient. Calm in the pocket. Lot of good there.”

Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick, has all the necessary tools to become a legitimate star in the NFL. The main concern is his accuracy. He only completed 54.7 percent of his pass attempts at Florida.
We’ll see if Steichen can get the best out of Richardson this upcoming season.
