It’s possible that the relationship between quarterback Carson Wentz and Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay soured before his trade to the Washington Commanders.
According to Zak Keefer of The Athletic, Wentz wanted to meet with Irsay to “clear the air” over his status with the team. Irsay apparently declined to meet.
This was revealed to be a simple miscommunication. Irsay was apparently out of town when Wentz first wanted to meet and not available. The two reportedly spoke later.
However, rumors that Wentz was on “shaky ground” with the Colts organization proved to be true. He was traded to the Commanders yesterday – ending his tenure with the Colts after just one year.
But that hasn’t stopped some people from running with the narrative that Irsay didn’t want to meet him.

The Indianapolis Colts traded a first-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for Wentz last year. While Wentz played better in 2021 than in 2020, an inexplicable loss to the Jaguars in the final week of the season cost the team a trip to the playoffs.
In his one year with the team he threw for 3,563 yards and 27 touchdowns while cutting his interception total in half.
Maybe the Colts would have traded Wentz at season’s end regardless even with a playoff trip. But clearly the way things ended left a sour taste in peoples’ mouths.
Do you think Wentz and Irsay ultimately cleared the air?
