Construction continues around Lucas Oil ahead of Colts game day

September 4, 2025 by WTTV - CBS 4

INDIANAPOLIS – The Colts have their first regular-season game against the Miami Dolphins this Sunday!

However, for fans attending this weekend’s first game, there are several construction projects surrounding the stadium.

Along with constructing the Signia Hotel and making Georgia Street pedestrian-friendly, the Indianapolis Department of Metropolitan Development is working on Illinois Street and Capitol Avenue.

DMD is working to restore the historic Union Station bridge, the street underneath it, and remove a lane to allow more pedestrians.

A lane will be closed in that area on gameday and throughout most of the season.

“Sorry to all of our Colts fans out there, but I promise, if you just stick around with us and you hold on tight, we will have something that will be amazing by spring of 2026,” Auboni Hart, the chief communications officer for the DMD, said.

If you’re coming from the north side, it’s cones as far as the eye can see on West Street.

Officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation have had lanes closed because of the road resurfacing from 11th Street to Morris Street since early July.

”This week, we will be removing most of the traffic control measures, so barrels, cones, all the things you’re seeing out there during the day,” Natalie Garrett, the strategic communications director for INDOT, said.

Work will continue on through the evening hours, but they didn’t want to impact Colts fans traveling in for the game.

”We have been coordinating with the Colts,” Garrett said.“We chatted with them for their preseason game a couple weeks ago, and we’ll continue to share information and coordinate as the season goes on.”

Eventually, daytime work will pick back up to finish the project by the end of September.

With Touchdown Town opening at 10 a.m. and kick off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, officials say to plan ahead, get there early, and slow down in active work sites.
