According to his former teammate Pat McAfee on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton recently had a throwing session in Indianapolis with his new starting quarterback Carson Wentz—and the early results were ‘awesome’:

“So, I have on good authority that T.Y. Hilton and Carson Wentz had their first throw session together on Saturday here in the Indianapolis area,” McAfee said this past weekend. “I also have it on good authority that T.Y. Hilton is f#$%#@% pumped up about how it went.”

“. . . He came just hours after that workout and said, ‘It was awesome. [Wentz’s] got a massive arm. [Wentz] was throwing it to spots.’”

“He said he felt good. He said they already felt like they [had] a lot of good chemistry and routine. . . . He said he’s been very excited.”

For an extended version of McAfee’s comments about the Colts’ new quarterback-to-wide receiver combination’s budding chemistry, see below:

It’s not the first time that Wentz has connected this offseason to workout with some Colts wide receivers, as he had a prior West Coast get together with the likes of Michael Pittman Jr. and Dezmon Patmon, as well as a more recent local session with Zach Pascal.

However, it’s important that Wentz get in some work with the elder statesman and veteran leader of the Colts’ young wide receiver room, T.Y. Hilton, an all-time franchise great who commands respect both on and off the field.

Hilton has already complimented Wentz as having some ‘Andrew Luck traits’, with his strong arm, dual-threat playmaking, and ability to improvise when a play breaks down.

The two are already laying the groundwork for having a productive connection in 2021.

In particular, Hilton, who’s played with the risk adverse Jacoby Brissett and diminished arm, twilight of his career Philip Rivers over the past two seasons, should really benefit from Wentz’s upgraded rifle of an arm, inclination to throw it downfield, and unique ability to extend plays outside the pocket.

After all, ‘The Ghost’ remains one of the league’s most proven deep threats.

It’s possible he could see an uptick in production next season with Wentz behind center—looking to ‘air it out’ downfield, and with Hilton also finding ways to work his way back to the football and find soft spots in coverage on Carson’s extended ‘playground’ plays.

Right now, the early results are encouraging between the two former Pro Bowlers sparking connection—with both standouts willing to put the time and work in to be productive together.
