Colts sit 15th in ESPN's early 2021 NFL power rankings

February 13, 2021 by Colts Wire Leave a Comment

The Indianapolis Colts are a major question mark entering the 2021 offseason because of the lack of answers at the quarterback position. This is reflected in some of the power rankings being done across the league.

As the Colts were middle of the pack in USA TODAY’s final power rankings for the 2020 season, ESPN came out with their early rankings before the offseason officially arrives.

Because the Colts have no answer right now at quarterback, they sit at No. 15.

15. Indianapolis Colts

2020 record: 11-5

Offseason in three or fewer words: Who plays QB?

The Colts are on their way to their fifth different Week 1 starting quarterback in as many seasons. They’re in this position because Jacoby Brissett couldn’t hold down the job in 2019 and Philip Rivers despite leading the Colts to the playoffs this past season, decided to retire. One name you can cross off the Colts’ QB list is Matthew Stafford, who was traded from Detroit to the Rams. — Mike Wells

Despite the solid roster all around, it won’t mean much until the Colts can get consistent quarterback play. Jacoby Brissett proved he’s not a reliable starter in 2019 and while Philip Rivers was great in 2020, he’s now looking forward to the retired life.

The Colts also have to make moves at other vital positions like defensive end, cornerback and left tackle. They can also afford to add to the wide receiver and tight end rooms this offseason.

The Colts have built a solid roster with strong players at several positions, but they won’t be taken seriously as a contender until they find a quarterback.
