INDIANAPOLIS – Eight draft picks are the headliners as the Indianapolis Colts open their two-day rookie minicamp Friday.
But general manager Chris Ballard and his personnel staff have signed 14 undrafted rookies, and several other prospects will participate this weekend on a tryout basis.
The odds are stacked against undrafted rookies, but the Colts have a history of extending opportunities to longshots. They’ve had at least one undrafted rookie make the opening day roster in 24 of the past 26 seasons. Indy had a league-best active streak of 22 consecutive seasons end in 2021.
Last season, offensive lineman Dalton Tucker earned a spot on the initial 53-player roster.
A capsule look at this year’s undrafted rookies:
*K Maddux Trujillo, Temple: He’ll offer Spencer Shrader competition. Trujillo converted a modest 54-of-75 field-goal attempts (72%) as a collegian at Temple and Austin Peay, including 16-of-22 at Temple last season, but displayed a strong leg. He converted a school-record 64-yarder versus Utah State, a 60 yarder against UConn and 54-yarders versus Florida Atlantic and Coastal Carolina. The 64-yarder is tied-8th longest in NCAA history and is the longest field goal made at Lincoln Financial Field. Third player to convert at least 2 60-yarders in a season.
*DT Devonta Davis, Florida Atlantic (6-3, 296): Had 29 tackles, 1.5 sacks and five tackles for loss in 12 games last season. Davis spent his three previous seasons at Jackson State and had 7.5 sacks and 19 tackles for loss in 26 games.
*LB Solomon DeShields, Texas A&M (6-3, 235): Saw action in 12 games last season with and had 23 tackles and 1.5 sacks. DeShields transferred from Pitt where he had 58 tackles, 2 sacks and 8 tackles for loss in 42 games.
*CB Johnathan Edwards, Tulane (6-1, 200): Played at Tulane in 2024 after spending the three previous seasons at Indiana State. With Sycamores, Edwards appeared in 31 games with 100 tackles and 21 passes defended.
*OT Marshall Foerner, Minnesota State (6-7, 305): Started 36 games the past three seasons as the Mavericks posted a 30-10 record and averaged 181.1 rushing yards per game.
*WR Tyler Kahmann, Emporia State (6-3, 206): Prolific receiver for the Division II Hornets. Kahmann set school records with 282 receptions, 3,686 yards and 54 touchdowns. He had 100 catches for 1,488 yards and 20 TDs last season and 101 catches for 1,234 yards and 20 TDs in 2023.
*DE Desmond Little, UAB (6-6, 240): Started 19 of 23 games the past two years at UAB and collected 11.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss.
*DT Joe Evans, UTSA (6-3, 335): Played final three seasons at Texas-San Antonio after three seasons at LSU. Evans was third-team all-conference in 2023 but suffered a season-ending knee injury in the fifth game of ’24. In ’23, he started all 13 games and had 11 solo tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks.
*TE Maximilian Mang, Syracuse (6-7, 267): Was primarily a blocker for Syracuse. Finished with just nine catches for 60 yards and one TD. Hometown is Nuthetal, Germany. Mang was a tight end/defensive end for the Berlin Rebels of the German Football League, the highest level of American football in Germany
*WR Coleman Owen, Ohio (5-11, 191): Transferred from Northern Arizona and made immediate impact in 2024. Owen set Ohio’s single-season record with 1,245 yards on 78 catches with 8 TDs. In five seasons and 39 games at Northern Arizona, he piled up 177 receptions for 2,272 yards and 17 TDs.
*WR Landon Parker, Troy (6-3, 215): Appeared in 25 games the past two seasons and posted 35 receptions for 478 yards. In three seasons and 31 games at Wofford, Parker had 60 catches, 1,183 yards and six TDs.
*WR Blayne Taylor, Abilene Christian (6-5, 215): Had 133 receptions, 2,026 yards and 17 touchdowns in 36 games the past three seasons. Taylor had his best year in 2024 with 73 catches, 1,117 yards and eight TDs.
*S Ladarius Tennison, Central Florida (5-10, 200): Appeared in 59 games with 21 starts during a five-year college career that included stints at Central Florida, Ole Miss and Auburn. Tennison started four of 11 games last season at Central Florida with 32 tackles and one interception.
*S Trey Washington, Mississippi (5-10, 205): Had 201 tackles and five interceptions in 52 games.
