INDIANAPOLIS – Samson Ebukam apparently avoided a long-term knee injury, but one of the Indianapolis Colts’ edge pass rushers is expected to miss an undetermined amount of time.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the initial diagnosis of the knee injury Ebukam sustained in Sunday’s 38-24 win over the Los Angeles Chargers didn’t reveal damage that would keep him out for an extended time.
Ebukam, who missed the 2024 season with a torn Achilles, suffered an injury to the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in a knee, according to ESPN. He is expected to seek a second medical opinion.
Ebukam has 14 tackles, 2 sacks and seven quarterback hits as the Colts have gotten off to an NFL-best 6-1 start.
His contributions are a testament to an offseason rehab process after he sustained an Achilles injury during the 2024 training camp.
The Colts signed Ebukam as a free agent prior to 2023 with a three-year, $24 million contract and he responded with a career-best and team-high 9.5 sacks. The defense piled up 51 sacks, the most in the Indy era.
Ebukam’s situation might be compounded by the status of end Tyquan Lewis. He suffered a groin injury against the Chargers.
