There’s no worse feeling in the NFL than suffering a preseason, season-ending injury. It’s even worse when it happens before your career can even really begin.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Colts rookie safety Daniel Scott tore his ACL in the final play of last week’s OTA. He has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.
Scott was a fifth-round pick out of California in the 2023 NFL Draft and was a two-time All-Pac-12 selection. Last year he had 85 tackles, three interceptions, seven passes defended, and three forced fumbles.
Scott impressed at the NFL Scouting Combine, running a 4.45 40-yard dash and doing 22 bench press reps. In college he proved to be solid on special teams as well as in the starting defense.
The Colts probably could have used Scott a lot in 2023. Their defense ranked near the bottom of the league in points allowed, going 4-12-1 on the season with the fourth-worst record in the league.
Colts’ fifth-round pick, safety Daniel Scott, tore his ACL on the last play of OTA’s last week and was placed on the Injured Reserve list today, per source. Scott is now out for the season.

The Colts actually used quite a bit of draft capital on their secondary. Aside from Scott, the Colts used three of their other 11 picks on cornerbacks.
Will the Colts defense see a marked improvement in 2023?
