Colts QB Carson Wentz Headed for an MRI on his Injured Ankle

Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback Carson Wentz is headed for an MRI on his injured ankle that he suffered late during Sunday’s loss against the Los Angeles Rams:

Having undertaken a beating all game, it looks like Wentz was injured on this particular play, on a 3rd and 5 incomplete pass intended for Michael Pittman Jr. (7:31 4th quarter)—with heavy pressure from Aaron Donald, when his ankle may have rolled a bit trying to escape:

Wentz was seen noticeably hobbling on the sideline, and with 2:23 left and the Colts down 27-24—and a chance to either win or tie, it was backup quarterback Jacob Eason, in relief, who threw the game-clinching interception just two plays later.

Wentz never returned.

On the afternoon, Wentz completed 20 of 31 passes (65.4%) for 247 passing yards, a touchdown, an interception, and a quarterback rating of 86.3.

Despite constantly being under siege in the passing pocket, Wentz did his best to try to make and extend plays for the Colts.

Simply put, while not perfect, he battled out there in what was a gutsy overall performance:

The Colts fell to 0-2 (and are now in the AFC South’s cellar along with the Jacksonville Jaguars) and play a pivotal divisional matchup on the road against the Tennessee Titans (1-1) next weekend.

The hope is that Wentz will be fully recovered in time to start behind center.
