INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Colts are dealing with the inevitable attrition of training camp.
The team placed running back Salvon Ahmed (ankle) and rookie cornerback Justin Walley (knee) on the injured reserve list, waived-injured linebacker Liam Anderson (hamstring) and released cornerback Tre Herndon. If Anderson clears waivers, he will return to the Colts’ IR list.
In corresponding moves, the Colts signed rookie running backs Nate Noel and Nay’Quan Wright, offensive tackle Marcellus Johnson and rookie cornerback J.J. Mayes.
Ahmed suffered the serious injury to his right ankle last Sunday during a training camp session at Grand Park in Westfield. He was dragged down on a hip-drop tackle by rookie cornerback Trey Washington, a maneuver banned by the NFL.
Walley is a third-round draft pick who was challenging for a starting cornerback spot opposite veteran Charvarius Ward. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in one of his knees in a joint practice with the Ravens in Baltimore on Tuesday.
Several other Colts continue to miss time with injuries, including cornerbacks Jaylon Jones (hamstring) and JuJu Brents (hamstring) and linebacker Jaylon Carlies (ankle).
Also, quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. dislocated the pinky on his right (throwing) hand and rookie defensive end JT Tuimoloau suffered a knee injury in Thursday night’s 24-16 loss to the Ravens.
The team returns to practice at Grand Park on Saturday afternoon.
