It was a rough day at training camp for the Indianapolis Colts on the injury front.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Colts placed defensive end Genard Avery on injured reserve today. Avery is dealing with a knee injury and will miss some serious time.
Avery is heading into his first season with the Colts after spending his first five NFL seasons spread across three teams. Last year he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recording five tackles and one sack in nine games.
But Avery also has 2.5 years with the Philadelphia Eagles, during which he became acquainted with then-offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, who is now the Colts head coach.
Another day, another notable injury in Indianapolis: the Colts are placing DE Genard Avery on injured reserve due to a knee injury.

Expectations for the Indianapolis Colts are mixed this year. On one hand, they’re pretty clearly in a rebuilding year with a new head coach in Steichen and a rookie quarterback in Anthony Richardson.
But on the other hand, the AFC South is pretty ripe for the taking. Last year the Jacksonville Jaguars needed only nine wins to take the division.
Will the Colts be able to make a run at the division this season?
