The Colts are a little banged up at cornerback right now and just added a reinforcement.
The Indianapolis Colts announced on Wednesday that the team has placed veteran cornerback T.J. Carrie (knee) on injured reserve and promoted fellow corner Anthony Chesley to the 53-man active roster from the team’s practice squad.
It means that Carrie will be out a minimum of three games before he can be activated off of injured reserve.
Carrie appeared in 3 games (1 start) for the Colts so far this season, recording 12 tackles (11 solo) and a pass defensed.
Per PFF (subscription), he has earned a +58.8 overall grade in 2021. He’s been targeted 8 times in coverage for 6 receptions (75.0% reception percentage), 123 receiving yards (20.5 ypr. avg.), 0 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and an allowed NFL passer rating of 116.7.
Carrie battled a knee injury last week. but was not listed among the Colts inactives against the Tennessee Titans.
It does explain why the Colts have been working out a handful of cornerbacks earlier this week.
However, it looks as though the team was most comfortable with Chesley, who was previously on the team’s practice squad to start this season.
The 26 year old former undrafted cornerback has also spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans organizations. At 6’0”, 190 pounds, he appeared in 3 games for the Houston Texans in 2020, recording one tackle.
Meanwhile, the Colts also signed safety Jordan Lucas to their practice squad with the vacant space from Chesley’s recent promotion.
