Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has been doing a little bit of damage control since his controversial comments on the state of running back contracts in the NFL. Now it looks like he wants to clear the air with one vital member of his team.
According to ESPN’s Stephen Holder, Irsay arrived at Colts practice today on his private luxury bus. Upon arriving, he invited Taylor on board for some sort of meeting.
Irsay previously accused NFL running backs of acting in “bad faith” through their agents in trying to get newer, bigger contracts. But he backtracked on those comments slightly by making it clear that he was not referring to Taylor, who led the NFL in rushing in 2021.
No doubt the meeting between Irsay and Taylor is intended to clear the air between the two of them personally. Whether it’s the beginning stages of a contract extension for Taylor remains to be seen.

Jonathan Taylor is heading into the final year of his rookie contract. He’s rapidly established himself as one of the best runners in the league, averaging nearly 90 yards per game and scoring 36 touchdowns in just 43 games.
That’s the kind of player that Irsay could build an offense around as quarterback Anthony Richardson develops into what he hopes is a franchise signal caller.
Will Jonathan Taylor get a contract extension with the Colts before the end of the year?
