Colts not committing to Eric Fisher playing in Week 2

September 18, 2021 by Colts Wire Leave a Comment

The Indianapolis Colts will have a decision to make leading up to Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams when it comes to the status of left tackle Eric Fisher.

The veteran left tackle is listed as questionable for the Week 2 game but was able to log a full practice for the first time this season. Head coach Frank Reich told the media Friday that the Colts will use all the time they can to evaluate his status for the home matchup.

“I think we’ll evaluate tomorrow, look at his tape today, evaluate the whole week. Probably not ready to really 100 percent commit,” Reich said. “I want to sit through, talk it through with Chris (Ballard), talk it through with the staff, look at all the options because there’s a couple moving parts here. We’ll let that play out in the next 48 hours and figure out what the best combination is and what we’ll do.”

Fisher tore his Achilles tendon during the AFC Championship game back in January with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Colts signed him following the 2021 NFL draft and he’s been rehabbing ever since. Fisher spent the entire training camp and preseason on the PUP list but was activated following roster cuts.

Fisher returned to practice in a limited capacity during the week leading up to the season opener but was inactive. As for what Reich has seen from Fisher thus far, he’s encouraged.

“I think Eric (Fisher) has had a solid week. I mean this has really been his first full week of practice,” Reich said.

The Colts are already down right tackle Braden Smith while left guard Quenton Nelson plays through a back injury. Not having Fisher would be an even bigger issue on Sunday, but the Colts won’t rush it unless they feel 100% sure he’s ready to go.
