On Wednesday, the Indianapolis Colts brought in Stephon Gilmore for a visit. The All-Pro cornerback remains a free agent at this time.
According to Zak Keefer of The Athletic, the Colts are “really motivated” to get a deal done with Gilmore. They believe he can still play cornerback at a high level.
“My sense is Colts are really motivated to get something done with Stephon Gilmore, who visited yesterday — not just because it’s a position of need but because they think he can still play at a high level and would fit well,” Keefer said. “We’ll see if they can get a deal done. Nothing yet.”
Even though a deal isn’t imminent at this time, Colts fans are very excited about the possibility of adding the former Defensive Player of the Year to the 2022 roster.
“Omg plz Colts get it done,” one fan tweeted. “We check this outside corner box off and we literally are then just 2 weapons for Matty Ice away from actually being a REAL threat…. Gotta better chance hitting on one of these explosive wide outs than a shutdown corner in this draft.”

“I’d be so much more comfortable going into the draft to build a top team in the gauntlet that is the AFC if we managed to pull this off,” another fan wrote.

Not every Colts fan is optimistic about a deal being finalized though.
They’re REALLY motivated sounds like a great excuse for when it doesn’t get done #colts #fireballard https://t.co/bfoapRJn9c

Gilmore is no longer considered the best cornerback in the league, but he did play well in certain spots last season.
In eight games with the Carolina Panthers, Gilmore had two interceptions and two passes defensed. He could potentially revitalize his career in Indianapolis.
