Colts’ LT Eric Fisher on Where He’s at in Recovering From Achilles Injury: ‘I Feel Pretty Darn Good.’ 

Colts’ left tackle Eric Fisher continues to positively progress as he looks to return to in-game action sooner rather than later.

If you thought playing against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks was a tough matchup for Indianapolis, Week 2 might be even tougher, as Matt Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams come to Lucas Oil this Sunday.

We know just how horrendous Indy’s offensive lined performed against an unproven and young Seattle front four, and they’re going up against a much more proven, elite group led by Aaron Donald, whose play and sheer dominance speaks for itself.

Left tackle Julien Davenport, who was brought in to be a place holder for veteran left tackle Eric Fisher, struggled the most of all the team’s starting offensive lineman. Davenport allowed 2 sacks and multiple quarterback hurries.

The Colts are in jeopardy of being without starting right tackle Braden Smith, who’s been dealing with a foot injury which he sustained during last week’s game.

Potentially being without both Fisher and Smith would really put Indy’s offensive line at quite the disadvantage going against a proven front in the Rams.

The good news? Eric Fisher has remained ahead of schedule as he continues to work his way back from tearing his Achilles in last year’s AFC Championship game, and there’s a chance he’ll make his Colts’ debut on Sunday.

“Yeah, [I’m] feelin’ real good, doing everything I can in my power to be available for this team,” Fisher said in a press conference with local media members Wednesday afternoon. “I’ll leave my status and my role up to the coaches and trainers, but I’m doing my part to make sure I’m rehabbing as hard as I can, practicing as hard as I can, and just being ready when my number’s called.”

When asked if he was surprised about how quickly he’s been able to recover from the injury, Fisher said, “As soon as that injury happened, I set my mind to a certain goal, and it wasn’t a timeline goal, but hey, every single day, I have an opportunity to recover from this and work my butt off, and that’s how I approached it.”

Additionally, the veteran tackle mentioned how pleased with where he is in the recovery process.

“I’m pretty happy with where I’m at considering [I’m] 30 years old and going into Year 9,” Fisher said. “I’m excited for when my number does get called.”

Having the two-time Pro Bowler starting at left tackle would make a significant difference, especially when you consider how well quarterback Carson Wentz performed when under constant, heavy duress in Week 1.

While Fisher won’t commit to being out there for Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles, he did, at the very least, provide some hope that he may be out there.

“I feel pretty darn good,” Fisher said.

Fisher, according to Zak Keefer, a writer for The Athletic, was ‘limited’ in Wednesday’s practice.

There’s no question Indy needs Fisher to return sooner rather than later. We’ll have to see if the left tackle’s status changes throughout the rest of the week. If it does, I’d say there’s a very strong chance he’ll be the Colts’ starting left tackle for Sunday’s game.
