Colts listed as ideal landing spot for TE Hunter Henry

February 9, 2021 by Colts Wire Leave a Comment

As the offseason officially arrives, the Indianapolis Colts are going to be listed as a landing spot for a lot of players set to hit free agency in 2021.

Given their solid roster, strong coaching staff and abundance of salary cap space, the Colts have the means to make big moves in free agency. Whether they will is the question, but they have the resources to do so.

With just over a month until free agency arrives, ESPN listed the Colts as the ideal landing spot for tight end Hunter Henry.

This offense is ready to take off … once it figures out the quarterback spot. Adding a new dimension at tight end to complement young pieces Jonathan Taylor and Michael Pittman Jr. will set up the new quarterback nicely. Let Jack Doyle handle the dirty work and Henry will get open. Don’t sleep on the Chargers keeping him, too. Losing him would be big for Justin Herbert.

The Colts are in need of adding to the tight end room. Jack Doyle is solid as a blocker and a strong target in the quick passing game. Mo Alie-Cox has a lot of upside but is still working through his development. Trey Burton is set to be a free agent and is unlikely to return.

Henry has all the makings of an elite tight end but injuries have gotten in his way. The 26-year-old has never played a full 16-game season but is still able to put up solid numbers. In 14 games during the 2020 season, Henry caught 60 passes for 613 yards and four touchdowns.

How much spending the Colts will want to do isn’t clear yet. The cap isn’t set for the 2021 season so there is a bit of waiting to do. But Henry is a solid fit for the offense and could be a dynamic playmaker in a scheme that wants to use tight ends in the passing game.

It will all come down to how much the Colts think Henry is worth given his injury history.
