Colts' Carson Wentz (ankles) 'in a much better spot' entering Week 4

September 27, 2021 by Colts Wire Leave a Comment

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz got through the Week 3 loss against the Tennessee Titans despite nursing two sprained ankles and will try to give a go again this week.

Despite being under constant pressure on Sunday against the Titans, the Colts feel Wentz is in a better spot than he was coming out of the Week 2 game when he initially injured his ankles.

Head coach Frank Reich told the media Monday that the hope is to get the ankles better each week.

As for Carson Wentz (ankles), he came out of the game OK. Colts believe he’s in a much better spot than last week at this time, and hope he can practice Thursday and Friday this week. Goal is it gets better week-by-week.

It appears Wentz is going to continue playing through the injuries no matter how immobile it makes him in the pocket. It was clear he was uncomfortable being a pocket passer both in handling pressure and making throws from a clean pocket.

It’s unlikely he practices on Wednesday to begin the preparation for the Week 4 game against the Miami Dolphins, but the hope is that he participates in a limited fashion on Thursday and Friday.

The Colts offense has struggled to open the season and even though a battered Wentz is their best option under center, this could be a trend we see over the next few weeks considering his physical limitations.
