The Colts attacked two of their biggest needs right away in the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting edge rusher Laiatu Latu in the first round, followed by the dynamic Adonai Mitchell in the second round. They would also bolster their offensive line depth and emphasize versatility, regardless of the position group, on Day 3 of the draft.
But it wasn’t until their last pick in the fifth round and then in the sixth round that the Colts were able to address the secondary–arguably their biggest need coming into the draft, or at least that’s how it was viewed on the outside. However, this approach aligns with what GM Chris Ballard had to say about the secondary during his pre-draft press conference, where he sounded very bullish about the cornerback and safety position groups.
With the draft now behind us, grades have been handed out. Ultimately, we won’t know how this draft class for the Colts turns out until a few years from now, but what draft analysts do take into account when handing out grades is what the team needs were, the perceived value of the selections made, and also who they passed on.
So, overall, and taking into account all of the draft grades that were handed out, how did the Colts grade out for their 2024 NFL draft haul?
