Colts add undrafted rookies, including kicking competition for Spencer Shrader

April 28, 2025 by WTTV - CBS 4

INDIANAPOLIS – The flurry of activity shortly after the three-day NFL draft concluded Saturday evening all but filled out the Indianapolis Colts’ roster.

For now, of course.

After adding eight draft picks, including Penn State tight end Tyler Warren with the No. 14 overall pick, general manager Chris Ballard and his scouting staff signed or agreed to terms with more than a dozen undrafted rookies.

The Colts will hold their rookie minicamp May 9-10.

There has been no official announcement from the team, but the list has been compiled by IndyStar’s Joel A. Erickson, Spotrac.com and other outlets.

The list:

*DT Joe Evans, UTSA

*DE Desmond Little, UAB

*LB Solomon DeShields, Texas A&M

*WR Landon Parker, Troy

*DT Devonta Davis, Florida Atlantic

*RB Ulysses Bentley, Mississippi

*DB Johnathan Edwards Tulane

*OL Marshall Foerner, Minnesota State

*WR Tyler Kahmann, Emporia State

*WR Coleman Owen, Ohio

*WR Blayne Taylor, Abilene Christian

*K Maddux Trujillo, Temple

*S Trey Washington, Mississippi

Ballard said the Colts would add a kicker with a strong leg to compete with Spencer Shrader after veteran Matt Gay was released.

Trujillo fits that profile. After three seasons at Austin Peay, he transferred to Temple and routinely flashed his long-distance skills.

Trujillo converted 16-of-22 field-goal attempts for the Owls, including 64- and 60-yarders, and three more of at least 50. He was the third player in NCAA history with at least two 60-yarders in a season and his 64-yarder against Utah State was tied for the eighth-longest in NCAA history as well as the longest at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to Spotrac.com, the largest guarantees among the three-year contracts went to Evans ($30,000), DeShields ($25,000) and Little ($10,000).
