The former 2016 5th round pick of the New York Giants was brought in for a workout last week, and the Colts apparently liked enough of what the team saw.
In addition to the Giants (2016-19), Perkins has also spent time with the Detroit Lions (2019), Jacksonville Jaguars (2019), and Baltimore Ravens (2019) organizations.
The 4-year veteran has 165 career carries for 575 total rushing yards (3.5 ypc. avg.) and 0 rushing touchdowns during 29 games (5 starts)—having suffered a season-ending pectoral injury in 2018.
Perkins fills the final vacated practice squad spot that was left open after former PK Matt Gay was signed to the Los Angeles Rams active roster earlier this week.
None of the team’s 53-man active roster running backs are presently listed as injured, but it is a position that frequently gets dinged up and any additional depth certainly helps.
