Breaking: Jaguars “Dismissive Gesture” Could Signal Trade?

September 15, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

It was a close battle against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2, but the latest gesture from quarterback Trevor Lawrence could signal a trade at some point down the line. Cameras caught the signal-caller doing a “wave” gesture towards head coach Liam Coen after his inaccurate pass just before the Jacksonville Jaguars failed to convert in their latest close loss against the Bengals. Ever since hiring Coen for Jacksonville, the Jaguars have been hoping that the relationship between Lawrence and the new head coach would be intact for the entire 2025 campaign, but it’s not looking that way anymore. Meanwhile, what’s interesting is that Coen downplayed the situation in the post-game conference after the game was over.

“It was just one throw. I was pissed. It is what it is. That’s emotion. It’s not personal, ever. That’s just me getting worked,” Coen said. “I was very pleased with Lawrence’s competitive nature. The way he stayed calm on the sidelines. He’s pretty even-kneel, which is good for me. I need that.”

The relationship between Lawrence and Coen might be solid for now, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks as the season progresses. For the sake of this article, here are three potential dream teams that could trade for Lawrence.

Potential Dream Teams

Cleveland Browns

With the way the Cleveland Browns have been playing the past two weeks, they might have to bench veteran Joe Flacco. The good news is that the Browns have two hungry rookies in Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders sitting on the bench waiting for an opportunity. However, the chances of them succeeding are slim, as the only opportunity they really had to change the trajectory of their team was with Baker Mayfield. This isn’t to say Sanders or Gabriel won’t get their flashes, but if they truly want an adequate quarterback, they should be in the trade market.

Meanwhile, it’s still shocking that they’ve traded Kenny Pickett before the 2025 campaign. If Lawrence continues to play on a downward trend, the Browns should try to trade for him at some point in his career to give Cleveland a complete reset.

Carolina Panthers

However, the Carolina Panthers look like they have a problem on their hands. Quarterback Bryce Young hasn’t shown the team that there is improvement, even after getting some help on offense. It’s a huge blow to their expectations as they had plenty of momentum heading into this season. The Panthers might have Andy Dalton as their backup, but he’s nothing more than a bridge starter.

Lawrence could easily change things around in Carolina like he did in Jacksonville if it all falters this year.

Indianapolis Colts

Meanwhile, former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is putting on a resume-based season with the Colts. He does have some consistency issues in some moments, but if he can’t hold up to bring them to a postseason appearance, they might have to trade for a new quarterback. The Jaguars would never trade Lawrence to Indianapolis, but if at some point he becomes available in free agency years from now, the Colts should try to sign him.

This only makes sense if they’re without an adequate starter and depending on what happens with Jones.
