Another day, another devastating injury blow for the Indianapolis Colts.
On Monday, the Colts announced that starting quarterback Carson Wentz will undergo surgery on his foot. The surgery was reportedly successful and Wentz is expected to miss anywhere from 5 to 12 weeks. Wentz has reportedly been dealing with an issue in his foot as far back as high school.
Tuesday morning, the Colts announced an eerily similar injury update. All-Pro offensive lineman Quenton Nelson will undergo a similar surgery.
Nelson showed up to Colts practice on Tuesday in a walking boot.
NEWS: Frank Reich says Quenton Nelson has a bone issue similar to Carson Wentz’s and will undergo surgery today. Similar timeline to Wentz.
On Wentz, surgery was “best case scenario.” No further damage discovered.
Reich: “Can’t make this up.”

Thankfully for the Colts, neither injury is season-ending. Indianapolis could get its starting quarterback and best offensive lineman back at some point in September, at the earliest. If Wentz and Nelson are both out for the longest projection of time, they could return in late October or November.

Wentz and Nelson are obviously major losses for the Colts, who are hoping to contend for a deep postseason run this winter.
Indianapolis is scheduled to open the 2021 season on Sunday, Sept. 12 against the Seattle Seahawks.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. E.T.
