Anthony Richardson is officially QB1 in Indianapolis, which reportedly came as a surprise to the fourth overall pick.
In his first comments since the news came down that he would be the Colts starting quarterback, Richardson said he was “shocked.”
“Honestly, I was shocked,” the former Florida star admitted, via WISH-TV. “I’ve been grinding, putting in the work to try to get the title, but it’s not really all about the title.”

“I’m just trying to make sure I’m ready for the team,” Richardson continued. “Despite being labeled as QB1 I’ve still got other guys in that room helping me to get to that standard. I’m forever thankful for them.”
Richardson started just one season for UF before entering his name in the NFL Draft. With just 13 starts to his name, the No. 4 pick is still extremely raw. But his off-the-charts athleticism and arm has impressed the organization throughout camp.
Last month, Richardson signed his four-year, $33.99 million guaranteed rookie deal, which includes a $21.72 million signing bonus. He’ll make his next preseason appearance against the Bears on Saturday.
