Anthony Richardson’s rookie season with the Colts is officially over. Moments ago, the team confirmed that he’ll undergo season-ending shoulder surgery in the near future.
Richardson suffered an AC joint sprain in Week 5 against the Titans. Prior to getting hurt, he racked up 577 passing yards, 136 rushing yards and seven total touchdowns.
Colts owner Jim Irsay released a statement on Richardson’s season-ending injury.
“After consultation with our medical staff, Anthony, and those close to him, it has been determined that he will undergo surgery to repair his injured shoulder, which will end his season,” Irsay said. “Anthony is a competitor, and we know how difficult and disappointing this is for him and our team. We collected several medical opinions and we felt this was the best course of action for his long-term health. We anticipate a full recovery and there is no doubt Anthony has a promising future. In the meantime, I love the fight of this team and I’m excited for the opportunity we have ahead of us. It starts this week with Cleveland.”

Gardner Minshew will now be the unquestioned starter for the Colts. The former Washington State product is completing 65.2 percent of his passes this season for 882 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
While there’s no doubt Minshew can hold down the fort in Indianapolis, it’s really unfortunate the NFL world won’t get to watch Richardson fully develop this season.
