The Indianapolis Colts will be without promising rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson for the remainder of the season.
Richardson, who suffered a shoulder injury against the Tennessee Titans in Week 5, will have season-ending surgery, Colts owner Jim Irsay announced Wednesday morning.
“After consultation with our medical staff, Anthony, and those close to him, it has been determined that he will undergo surgery to repair his injured shoulder, which will end his season,” Irsay said. “Anthony is a competitor, and we know how difficult and disappointing this is for him and our team. We collected several medical opinions and we felt this was the best course of action for his long-term health. We anticipate a full recovery and there is no doubt Anthony has a promising future. In the meantime, I love the fight of this team and I’m excited for the opportunity we have ahead of us. It starts this week with Cleveland.”

Considering the potential Richardson showed in his limited action as a rookie, Colts fans are understandably bummed out by the No. 4 overall pick having to miss the rest of the year.
They’ve been letting their feelings be known on social media.

It’s without a doubt disappointing to see Richardson’s rookie year end before ot truly had a chance to begin.
But the team is doing the right thing by their franchise QB and that is great to see and should have fans pumped for his return next year. https://t.co/BP7oVgdwOd

At least we have had the last few days to go through the stages of grief. And they are learning the lessons from the Luck era. The rest of this season won’t be fun, but I can live with that.

Richardson recorded 577 passing yards, 136 rushing yards and seven total touchdowns before getting injured.
Backup Gardner Minshew will assume the starting role the rest of the way for the Colts, who are 3-3 and tied for second place in the AFC South behind the 4-2 Jacksonville Jaguars.
