Another of Purdue’s transfers picks destination.
Last week, former Boilermaker Karissa McLaughlin committed to Marquette as a graduate transfer. Now, Fatou Diagne has announced yesterday that she will be going to the University of Houston as a graduate transfer as well.
Diagne was Purdue’s primary post presence this past season averaging 8.5 points and 8 rebounds per game for the Boilermakers and was named an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention for her performance. She took a big leap and progressed nicely as her career progressed, going from 3.5 points and 4.1 rebounds as a junior to her stellar senior year.
It will be a tough task to replace Diagne as she was a large piece of the small amount of success the Boilermakers had this past season. Going forward, Sharon Versyp and Katie Gearlds will have Ra’Shaya Kyle step into the starting role, but do not have a lot of depth behind her.
Forward’s Rickie Woltman and Nyagoa Gony are the only other frontcourt presences in the fold. They combined for just 109 minutes total last season, this is a recipe for a disaster given the post players in the Big Ten year-in and year-out.
A total of 5 Purdue players entered the transfer portal in Diagne, McLaughlin, Kayana Traylor, Tamara Farquhar and Bria Harmon. Of that group, only Diagne and McLaughlin have committed to new schools.
Regardless, good luck to Fatou as she starts a new chapter in her life down in Texas.
