Urban Meyer Reacts To Facing Former Big Ten Star

May 4, 2022 by The Spun

Urban Meyer and the Jacksonville Jaguars will face off against the Arizona Cardinals in a Week 3 matchup on Sunday — and across the way, the first-year NFL head coach will see a familiar face.

2018 was Meyer’s final season with the Ohio State Buckeyes and star wide receiver Rondale Moore’s freshman year with the Purdue Boilermakers.

Now that Moore is a key member of the Cardinals’ offense, Meyer has no need for a reintroduction.

“I have great respect for him. He knows that,” Meyer said, per NFL

Don’t worry.

“>insider Mia O’Brien. “I mean, I saw first hand. Yeah, he destroyed us in one year. He’s their primary returner — I think he’s leading the team in receptions, too. …You gotta contain him.”

The game in question took place on Oct. 20, 2018. Meyer’s No. 2 ranked, undefeated Ohio State squad traveled to West Lafayette to face off against an unranked, 3-3 Purdue team and left with a massive 49-20 defeat. Moore absolutely torched the Buckeyes, logging 12 receptions for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

To start his debut season, the second-round rookie is already putting up similar numbers in the NFL. Through two games, he leads the Cardinals in receptions (11), targets (13) and yards (182). In this past weekend’s victory over the Minnesota Vikings, the young talent led all receivers with seven receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown.

Pairing Moore alongside superstar wideout DeAndre Hopkins and fourth-year WR Christian Kirk, the Cardinals’ Air-Raid offense led by Kyler Murray is one of the most deadly passing attacks in the league.

Meyer and the Jags will search for their first win of the season against a tough 2-0 Arizona squad on Sunday.
