Where does Purdue fall?
The Big Ten Tournament started today in Indianapolis with the six teams that didn’t earn the double bye competing for their NCAA Tournament lives. Purdue will start the tournament tomorrow after finishing in 4th place which is NORMALLY good enough for the double bye but that due to the tiebreakers only earned them the 6 seed this season. Purdue will play the winner of the late game of USC vs. Rutgers. Purdue is collectively 3-0 against these teams this season and so I’m hopeful that Purdue will be able to roll into Friday with few minutes on the legs of guys like Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn.
I’m obsessed with Big Ten basketball though so of course I feel like I’m hyperfocused on this tournament and know more than most out there. So, what do the national readers of SB Nation think about this? Who do they view as the favorite to win this thing? Let’s take a look shall we?

Michigan State is the overwhelming favorite of the national voters with 50% of the vote. That makes sense to me seeing as how they won the conference by three games and logic would say they were the most consistent team this season. Maryland at second place with 13% doesn’t surprise me as they are playing some good basketball of late and Derik Queen is a downright menace on the basketball court. Purdue falls to third place overall here with 11%. Given the end of the season slide I’m amazed that Purdue still got the support they did. Maybe that’s more of a reputational choice given Purdue’s recent body of work.
If you head over to SB Nation’s partner FanDuel you can see that Purdue is currently at +700 to win the conference tournament. Not a bad return for you if you’re looking to make some money and if you truly believe in the Boilermakers. I’m not optimistic about their chances but I think putting a few dollars down on the Boilermakers to make a run isn’t a bad bit of advice. If you were crazy enough to put $100 down on the Boilermakers at +700 you’d earn a $700 profit should Purdue pull off the victory. Again, not something I’d recommend unless you’ve got money to burn but hey maybe you know something that I don’t. If that’s the case, hard to beat +700 if you truly believe.
