Roy Williams Had Hilarious Reaction To Big Final Four Moment

June 27, 2024 by The Spun

PORTLAND, OR – NOVEMBER 24:Head coach Roy Williams of the North Carolina Tar Heels yells out to his team during the second half of the game against the Arkansas Razorbacks during the PK80-Phil Knight Invitational presented by State Farm at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on November 24, 2017 in Portland, Oregon. Against the odds and the doubters, the NC State Wolfpack are giving the Purdue Boilermakers all they can handle in the first half of this Final Four game. While most fans are hoping for a strong finish, former North Carolina head coach Roy Williams isn’t amused.

At one point during the game, NC State star DJ Burns made a key assist to guard DJ Horne, who scored on the layup to help keep the game close. Cameras panned to Williams, who shook his head in apparent disgust at the play.

While Duke always served as Williams’ nemesis during his Hall of Fame coaching career, the Wolfpack also serve as major in-state rivals to his beloved Tar Heels.

“Roy Williams is a true Tar Heel,” the NCAA March Madness account posted on X.

Fans loved this scene, with many convinced that Williams only made the trip to Phoenix, Arizona so that he could revel in the Wolfpack losing their biggest game in decades.

“the man cannot fake it hahahahaha,” wrote Bomani Jones.

“He’s literally there hoping to watch State lose,” another user wrote.

“Just a reminder. Roy once said he would rather beat State than eat. He also wanted to buy someone’s season tickets because they let an NCSU fan have their seats and it was in Roy’s line of vision,” a third noted.

Williams’ former team saw their NCAA Tournament run come to an end in the Sweet 16 while Duke and the Wolfpack all made it further in the tournament.
