Purdue's New 7-Foot-3 Center Excels in U18 Debut, Fans React

Purdue commit Daniel Jacobsen made a major statement in his first game with the USA’s U18 national team.

Jacobsen, a 7-foot-3 center from the class of 2024, tallied nine points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks in Monday’s 88-66 AmeriCup win over Argentina. College basketball fans took notice of the prospect’s performance.

After watching Zach Edey dominate during four years at Purdue, onlookers wondered if the Boilermakers have found another star big man.

“Well we knew Matt Painter has a type,” Fansided’s Josh Yourish said of Purdue’s head coach.

“Could’ve left Purdue out of the description [and] I would’ve already known,” TJ Ballard wrote.

“Half tempted to create a fake recruiting profile and say I’m like 7’5 because I know Purdue will pay for my education,” Andy Herr joked.

“They can’t keep getting away with this,” an Ohio State fan account lamented.

“How does Purdue keep doing this,” a fan asked.

Jacobsen received offers from programs such as Georgetown, Providence, and Wisconsin before committing to Purdue last November. The Brewster Academy senior is bolstering his stock with the U.S. team.

Last week, 247Sports scout Adam Finkelstein elevated his grade of Jacobsen following a “game-changing performance” at the U18 trials. The four-star prospect is now the nation’s No. 15 center and No. 86 overall recruit from his class.

“This rating reflects the recent growth that we have seen first-hand, and simultaneously accounts for the time it may still take for him to continue to fill out his frame and grow into his body,” Finkelstein wrote. “But make no mistake about it, Purdue now has another 7-footer with a very exciting future.”
