Boilers tied the program record in 2021 for Big Ten honors
Purdue volleyball tied a program best six Big Ten post-season awards for the season. Eva Hudson, Raven Colvin and Chloe Chicoine were selected First Team while libero Maddie Schermerhorn earned Second Team honors for a second time. Chicoine and setter Taylor Anderson were also selected to the All-Big Ten Freshman team.
This is the second year in a row Hudson was selected on First Team leading the team in 4.77 kills per set coming in at fourth in the conference. In the last match of the season, Hudson notched her 1000th kill becoming the fastest player in Purdue history to accomplish the feat and only second Purdue player ever to join the elite club.
There’s an argument to be made that freshman Chloe Chicoine could have been Freshman of the year as she made a name for herself all season racking up the awards. She led all freshman in the conference with kills and points per set and came in fifth overall in the Big Ten. She had a season high 20 kills against ranked Penn State leading the team to a victory.
Chicoine is equally impressive in the backrow. Because of her height, she thought her best chances of recruitment would be as a libero, she tallied up 5 double-doubles with kills and digs this season and earned Big Ten Freshman of the week five times.
Colvin was a defensive powerhouse this season racking up 157 blocks and at least 6 blocks in 15 matches this year. She now ranks fifth in Purdue history with 357 block assists as a junior. Colvin had her best match of the season against Indiana where she posted a double-double with 14 kills and 11 blocks.
Maddie Schermerhorn the other defensive sidekick earned Second Team honors with a career-best 516 digs this season. She had a career-high 27 against Penn State and tallied up over 20 digs in 12 matches.
Taylor Anderson had big shoes to fill as she came in as true freshman to start every Big Ten match. After Megan Renner tore her ACL in the offseason, Shondell looked to the portal to bring in an experienced setter. She shared time with Anderson but the starting spot fell to Taylor as she led all Big Ten Setters in assists-per-set on five different weeks.
Anderson is a big part of the offensive efficiency Purdue has had this season and posted 12 double-doubles. She is also a good blocker up front in duo with Lourdes Myers and Raven Colvin garnering 91 total blocks.
