Kickers are people, too!
Spring is nearing the end, and summer is approaching. Final Exams are over for the Boilermakers, the portal is closed… kind of, and Coach Odom has flipped this roster upside down again, which is for the best.
In the age of the Transfer Portal, rosters change as much as a toddler’s diaper, whether it is liked or not, this is where College Football is at.
For Purdue, it is the best thing that could happen. The stink of a 1-11 roster lingering in West Lafayette was much worse than what the Wabash River sometimes permeates.
The players from the Special Teams unit have changed as well, a group that generally does not portal did and there are new faces on Campus for this group.
Here are the current players at Purdue for the Special Teams Unit:
Kicker:
Spencer Porath
Seth Turner
Jack Weeter
All three kickers are true sophomores. Porath returns to Purdue after an up and down freshman year under Coach Walters. He should be the front runner to be the number one kicker.
Punter:
Sam Dubwig – Freshman (RS) (Arkansas)
Bennett Boehnlein – Junior
Jack McCallister – Senior (Nebraska)
Purdue dove into the transfer portal for the punting position. McCallister should be the favorite as an experienced senior transfer of the group.
Long Snapper:
Justin Schmidt – Freshman
Luke Raab – Freshman (RS) (Georgia)
Raab comes to Purdue from their minor league program, Georgia, where he RS last season. He should walk into the Long Snapper position.
