Purdue’s social media team dropped a practice video today that should help brighten everyone’s holiday weekend.
The uber-talented folks that run Purdue’s social media account gave us all a pre-fourth of July present when they dropped a four-minute practice film today.
Obviously, there isn’t anything definitive to take away from such a short clip other than “Purdue has some serious dudes,” but I did see a few things that specifically caught my attention.
- I liked the clips of Braden playing off the ball as a spot-up shooter. A more experienced CJ Cox and the incoming Omer Mayer could take some of the ball-handling burden off Braden. It was easy to double Braden last season because he always had the ball in his hands. This season, you’re going to have to find him. The idea of Braden attacking closeouts instead of fighting through double-teams should make your heart sing as a Purdue fan.
- Speaking of CJ Cox and coming from a huge Omer Mayer fan, don’t take CJ out of the starting lineup just yet. Mayer has a higher ceiling, but Cox is a smooth, experienced operator, and he looks strong in these clips. Omer might end up as the starter, but it’s going to be an absolute dog fight in fall camp between him and CJ for the starting job.
- Jack Benter plays a fairly prominent role in the video, and I see the vision. He’s probably a year away from being a major contributor, but he brings something different on the wing for the Boilermakers. That jumper is legit, and I have a feeling we’re going to see more than one of those baseline fadeaways drop during his time in Makey.
